This month saw us say goodbye to our Portofino apartment which had been on our books for over four years. Our Owners, Patrick and Breda Beckett retired a few months back and decided it was time to cut ties with his holiday home at Nice’s Port. Pebbles Sales sold the property for him in just under a month, and the new Owner will take possession as their full time residential home.
This left a dilemma as to what to do with the furniture. Patrick offered the furniture to our staff which was very gratefully received by many, and to make this a little bit more charitable, we ran an auction for the items right the way down to the knives and forks. Our team could put in bids by email or attend in person, and by all accounts it was a fist clenching experience, especially the action of the foam dinosaurs! After all removal fees, cleaning fees and associated costs, we gathered 351.00 euros for charity. Pebbles will contribute to this amount to give £350 in pounds sterling.
The charity who will receive the funds is Mummy’s Star, a new and wonderful charity giving emotional, practical and financial assistance to women with cancer during pregnancy and beyond. Created by Pete Wallroth in memory of his wife Mair, Mummy’s Star is the first UK charity of its kind. Mair was diagnosed with breast cancer during her pregnancy and sadly passed away a few weeks after their second child, Merlin, was born. Mummy’s Star is run by 11 trustees on a voluntary basis, and the awareness of the charity is growing all the time. Donations and support can be made through the website homepage.
This isn’t the first time we have supported Mummy’s Star. In February this year, Pebbles offered a free Spring break as the star prize in a raffle held at their annual ball. Our lucky winners were two friends Shelley Jackson and Jessica Peck. The girls chose our Grimaldi apartment in Carre d’Or.
They said of their stay “we have had an amazing weekend, great place, gorgeous apartment, fantastic food and lots of laughs – we would love to come back.”
The girls described it as stunning and so chic in a great location, and the Pebbles Rentals service was superb – they were greeted by Ellie who they said made them feel very welcome from the moment they arrived at their apartment, the little touches – the welcome basket, personal check in and local information in the Pebbles Guide making all the difference.
So, we say a sad farewell to Portofino and our lovely Owners Patrick and Breda and we do hope they will come back to Nice again and stay as our guests. It has been a pleasure to work with them over the years, and we pass on warm thanks from Mummy’s Star too.
